Boot Camp: O's Ultimate Fall Boot Guide

Ankle or knee length, flat or well heeled, warm-and-fuzzy or urbanely polished, it's the year of the boot, and never before have there been so many options to choose from. We hunted high and low to bring you the best, from the luxurious to the sanely priced (which means plenty for under $100).

Comfort First
We've never seen so many fashion-forward boots that are this easy on your feet.

Sweet and Low
We love short boots because they're young and trend-conscious. Pair them with full-length pants—skinny, straight leg, bootcut, or wide leg—for the chicest results. Be careful when wearing them with skirts unless you’re particularly tall.

Happy Medium
Midcalf boots make a statement without too much height and are perfect with a to-the-knee skirt. The intermediate height tends to accentuate calf muscles, so if you want to play yours down, go either higher or lower with your boot selections.

High and Mighty
For instant attitude, you can't do much better than dramatic height. Tuck pants into high boots or wear with a skirt and opaque tights—but don't wear them with anything thigh-baring or you'll look like a Pretty Woman retread.

Leg Room
Big calves are an inherited trait (no amount of diet or exercise will shrink them). But there are plenty of accommodating boots, and you can get your favorites tailored to fit (a shoemaker can replace a zipper with elastic).

Great Boots Under $100!
The best pairs for crazy low prices.
